Commemorating the life and music of Franz Joseph Haydn during the
200th Anniversary of his passing
June 27, 2009
Music Celebrations International is pleased to announce the Celebrate Haydn Orchestra Festival. This orchestra festival will take place in Vienna’s famed Konzerthaus. Ten orchestras from North America will be specially selected to perform a stand-alone, featured concert in this historic performance venue to commemorate the passing of the "Father of the Symphony" – Papa Haydn! Participating orchestras will also have the opportunity to perform in the gorgeous Haydnsaal in Esterházy Palace – home to Haydn for nearly three decades.
To Mozart he was a fatherly friend, Beethoven was his most famous student. Joseph Haydn was a very beloved person, esteemed by his contemporaries, diligent, humorous, affable, and a straight shooter who was not spoiled by his steep climb from humble conditions into the highest social circles. In Vienna’s Haydn Park, a memorial plaque with the inscription "I will not die completely" can be found, a tribute to Haydn’s life and works.
