Dr. Scott BuchananDr. Scott Buchanan serves as the Director of Choral Activities at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Buchanan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Bradley University, a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the Florida State University, and a Ph.D. in Music Education from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Prior to his appointment at ISU, he served on the faculty as Director of Choral Activities at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia. Dr. Buchanan began his teaching career at the high school level in Brevard County, Florida, where his groups received acclaim at district, state, and national levels.

Dr. Buchanan is in frequent demand as a choral clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States. Recently, he has been engaged as a choral clinician/guest conductor for workshops, honor choirs, and All-State choirs in Indiana, North Dakota, Illinois, Nebraska, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, New York, Virginia, and Alabama. Additionally, he has published articles in the Southeastern Journal of Music Education, the Missouri Journal of Research in Music Education, ICDA Notations, and has written compact disc and choral reviews for the Choral Journal.

In April 2001, Dr. Buchanan made his Carnegie Hall debut as a guest conductor for MidAmerica Productions. In the spring of 2004, he returned to Carnegie Hall, conducting a solo performance with the Indiana State University Concert Choir. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society, and maintains active membership in MENC, IMEA, and ACDA. He has served on the IMEA Board of Directors and currently serves as President-elect of the Indiana Choral Directors Association. At Indiana State, Dr. Buchanan conducts the select Concert Choir, Masterworks Chorale, and teaches conducting, choral methods, and literature at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Additionally, he serves as faculty advisor for the ISU student chapters of ACDA and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
