Dr. William Skoog
Director of Choral Activities, Bowling Green State University


Dr. William SkoogDr. William Skoog is Director of Choral Activities at Bowling Green State University, directing of the University Men's Chorus and Collegiate Chorale and teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in conducting and literature. Choral ensembles under his direction have distinguished themselves with performances at the Indiana Choral Directors Association, Ohio Music Education Association Conferences, Ohio Choral Directors Association Summer Conference and at special events honoring William F. Buckley Jr. and Generals Colin Powell and Norman Schwartzkopf.

He conducted the Indiana/Purdue University Festival Chorale and the Prague Radio Symphony Chorus as part of the 2001 Dvorak Festival. In 2004, he conducted the BGSU Choral Society in European premieres of works by Dave Brubeck at the festival. The group returned to the festival for the summer of 2006, performing Mozart's Requiem.

He is sought after as a choral/vocal adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor. He has conducted the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra (Indiana), Indiana Opera North, the Arvada Center Theatre Company, the Golden Youth Symphony and the Elkhart and Longmont symphonies and choruses. He was also the founding conductor of the Littleton Chamber Orchestra in Colorado.

Prior to his Bowling Green State University appointment, Skoog served as Director of Choral Studies at Indiana/Purdue University in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he directed the University Singers and Chamber Singers. He previously served as department chair and director of choral/vocal activities at Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac, Michigan. Skoog holds a bachelor's degree from Gustavus Adolophus College, master's degrees in voice performance/pedagogy and conducting from the University of Denver, and a doctorate in choral conducting from the University of Northern Colorado.
