About Us

About TYO

Founded in 2005, by Deborah Perkins and Desiree Overree, the Texas Youth Orchestra is made up of high school and college-aged music students from all over the state, together only for the purpose of performing on concert tours. Each student is selected on the basis of their superior playing ability, their strong character, and a desire to learn more about the different cultures of the world.

The ensemble meets for an intensive five-day "Home Camp" to become acquainted with their concert program and each other. Our 2009 Tour includes concerts and sight-seeing in the countries of the Czech Republic, Austria, and Hungary. Their 2006 tour took them on a two-week tour of Italy and Austria, with playing engagements in Rome, Florence, Salzburg, Innsbruck, and Vienna, while their 2009 tour took them on a two-week tour of Eastern Europe, with performances in Prague, Vienna, Eisenstadt, and Budapest.

The TYO organization endeavors to provide students with the opportunity of a quality music education while reaching across international borders to experience and learn about other cultures. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to share the universal language of music with our European friends.
