Dr. Kevin Fenton
Festival Artistic Director

Dr. Kevin FentonKevin Fenton is associate professor of choral conducting and ensembles and conductor of the University Singers at Florida State University. He holds the Ph.D. from Florida State University, the M.M. from the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri in Kansas City and the B.M.E. from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas.

His prior appointments include Director of Choral Activities at James Madison University and Virginia Tech. On ten occasions, ensembles under his direction have been invited to perform for state and regional conventions of the American Choral Directors Association and the Music Educator's National Conference, including Florida State University Singers's 2006 performance at the Southern Division Convention of ACDA in Charleston, West Virginia.

Kevin has prepared choirs for performances with distinguished musicians such as Kristof Penderecki (2004), Bobby McFerrin (2004), Sir David Willcocks (2002), and Robert Shaw (1998). As a result of his positive approach in rehearsals, Dr. Fenton has conducted clinics and honor choirs in twenty-five states throughout the country, including guest conducting all-state honor choirs in Connecticut, Georgia and Kentucky during 2005. Kevin has authored articles appearing in the Choral Journal, the Music Educators Journal, and the Bulletin for Historical Research in Music Education, and is a recipient of the Gamma Mu Chapter of Delta Omicron Music Professor of the Year Award, and the Friends University Outstanding Young Alumnus Award.

Additionally, Dr. Fenton is chair of the College/University Repertoire and Standards Committee for the American Choral Directors Association.
